Lasers have revolutionized dermatology. Harvard, the leading institution for these discoveries, is where Dr. Laub first started performing these procedures 20 years ago.
Lasers make it possible to perform safe, high-precision, needle-free and almost painless procedures to remove unwanted hair, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, facial redness and leg veins.
A laser is an intense focused beam of light consisting of a single wavelength. Each laser is specific for the type of function it performs. The purpose of a laser is to treat a condition without injuring the surrounding tissue. Below is an overview of the laser procedures we offer to give you healthier, younger-looking skin.

Facial Veins
New laser technology allows us to treat facial veins without bruising or pain. Laser ablation takes only 45 minutes in two sessions, is painless and does not require anesthesia. The laser aims carefully controlled pulses of narrow-wavelength light at the dilated veins. The veins selectively absorb the light, heat up and then close. Several treatments are required to produce optimal results. Normal activities can be resumed immediately. Please contact our office for more details about this procedure.

Leg Veins
Veins have one-way valves that help keep blood flowing in the proper direction. If these valves stop functioning the way they are supposed to, blood can flow backwards and pool in the vein, causing it to stretch.
These enlarged blood vessels fall into two groups: spider veins and varicose veins.
- Spider veins are visible on the surface of the skin as red, blue or purple lines.
- Varicose veins are larger and deeper and often look like bluish bumps under the skin.
Unsightly, painful veins in the legs can be treated at Laub Dermatology with the following methods:
- Laser Ablation
- Sclerotherapy

Brown Spots
Brown spots, also called age spots and liver spots, are flat brown patches on the skin that have darkened in color (“pigmented”) after exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light. They are commonly seen in people over the age of 40 on areas of skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, such as the hands, shoulders, forearms, face and forehead. Age spots may look unattractive, but age spots are painless and harmless, although their dark color can delay the diagnosis of some skin cancers.
They can be easily removed by a laser. The spots will darken and then fall off in approximately 7-10 days after treatment. Sun protection is very important during the healing phase and to prevent recurrence. Please contact our office for more details about this procedure.

Hair Removal
Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair may welcome laser hair removal with relief.
Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth. Multiple treatments are required for maximal long-term hair reduction -- the follicle must be “active” at the time of treatment, and not all follicles are active at the same time. Treatments are needle-free and do not require anesthesia. Most patients feel nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band.
Laser hair removal is:
- Safe
- Painless
- Quick
- Advanced
Common treatment areas include:
- Upper lip
- Bikini
- Axilla/Underarms
- Legs
- Back
It is possible that some hair will grow back, though it is usually finer and lighter than what was originally removed. There may also be some redness and swelling following the procedure; however, daily activities can be resumed after treatment. Please contact our office for more details about this procedure.

Photodynamic Rejuvenation
Photodynamic skin rejuvenation involves the application of Levulan, a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with a light (photo source). This results in significant improvement in precancerous conditions such as:
- Actinic Keratoses (AKs)
- Sun-damaged Skin
- Moderate to Severe Cystic Acne
- Potentially Superficial Skin Cancers
Additionally, it improves:
- Wrinkles
- Pore Size
- Skin Texture
- Pigmentation
- Rosacea
Photodynamic rejuvenation may also prevent the development of skin cancer. Please contact our office for more details about this procedure.

Wrinkles/Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing, commonly called a laser peel, removes the outer, damaged layer of skin to reveal a smoother, younger look. Laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles and fine lines. A carbon dioxide (CO2) laser beam of precisely focused light vaporizes abnormal sun-damaged cells, resulting in the production of a new, healthier skin surface. Procedure time varies depending on the size and condition of the area being treated. Please contact our office for more details about this remarkable procedure.
